What PitchView AI detects in a basketball game
- Scores — field goals by type (layup, dunk, mid-range, three-pointer) and free throws, including the attempt count (1 of 1, 1 of 2).
- Assists — the pass that leads directly to a score.
- Rebounds — offensive boards that create a second chance, and defensive boards that end the possession.
- Turnovers — bad passes, ball-handling errors, offensive fouls and 3-, 5-, 8- and 24-second violations.
- Steals and blocks — the defensive plays that change possession or stop a shot.
- Fouls — personal, shooting, technical and flagrant.
- Timeouts — team timeouts and official reviews.
Scores are labelled as fast-break or half-court plays, and anything in the final two minutes is marked clutch. Routine dribbling and inbound passes (unless stolen) are left out, so the timeline stays focused on plays that matter.
How it works
- 1
Add your footage
upload a video file (up to 500 MB: MP4, AVI, MOV, MKV or WebM), paste a direct video URL or a YouTube link. For YouTube you can choose the download quality; the recommended one is pre-selected.
- 2
Choose the sport
pick it from the list, or let PitchView auto-detect it from a YouTube link. You confirm the sport before the analysis starts, and can pick the two teams from your Teams list so events are attributed to them.
- 3
Standard, parallel or live
standard analysis processes the whole video in one pass, ideal for highlights and short clips. Parallel analysis splits long footage into short overlapping segments and analyses several at once, with events appearing as each segment finishes. Stream analysis works on a match while it's being broadcast live.
- 4
Review and export
events appear on an interactive timeline; click any one to jump to that moment. Mark events as correct, wrong or duplicate, edit them, add your own, re-run the analysis with a custom prompt, and export the results.
What the output looks like
Illustrative example of the output format — not from a real game.
| Time | Event | Team | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| 04:22 | Score | Team A | Fast-break layup after a steal at half court |
| 11:09 | Turnover | Team B | 24-second shot-clock violation |
| 19:45 | Score | Team B | Half-court set: corner three-pointer off a drive-and-kick |
| 38:51 | Foul | Team A | Shooting foul on a drive; two free throws awarded |
| 46:12 | Score | Team A | Clutch: pull-up mid-range jumper to take the lead |
Getting the best results
- A high sideline angle showing the full court keeps both baskets and transition play in view.
- Broadcast footage works, but a fixed wide camera gives the most consistent results for full games.
- Full games: use parallel analysis for faster results on long footage.
- Pick both teams from your Teams list so scores and fouls are attributed to the right side.
Who uses it
Coaches reviewing possessions with players, analysts breaking down opponents' half-court sets, player-development staff tracking shot selection, and creators building highlight timelines from full games.
