What PitchView AI detects in a football match

PitchView AI watches the footage and logs every key moment as a timestamped event. For football it identifies eight event types:

  • Goals — the scorer, the assist provider and the finish (header, volley, tap-in or from outside the box), plus how the move was built: counter-attack, possession or set piece.
  • Shots — on target (saved) and off target (missed), including efforts that hit the woodwork.
  • Set pieces — corner kicks, direct and indirect free kicks, and penalties awarded.
  • Discipline — yellow cards, red cards (straight or second yellow) and significant warnings.
  • Defensive actions — key blocks, goal-line clearances and last-man tackles.
  • Offsides — flagged offside calls that stop play.
  • VAR — checks, on-field monitor reviews and the final decision, overturned or upheld.
  • Substitutions — tactical and injury-forced changes, player in and out.

Each event carries the team, a timestamp to the second and a short technical description. Replays are ignored so a goal isn't counted twice, and throw-ins are skipped unless they lead directly to a goal.

How it works

  1. 1

    Add your footage

upload a video file (up to 500 MB: MP4, AVI, MOV, MKV or WebM), paste a direct video URL or a YouTube link. For YouTube you can choose the download quality; the recommended one is pre-selected.

  2. 2

    Choose the sport

pick it from the list, or let PitchView auto-detect it from a YouTube link. You confirm the sport before the analysis starts, and can pick the two teams from your Teams list so events are attributed to them.

  3. 3

    Standard, parallel or live

standard analysis processes the whole video in one pass, ideal for highlights and short clips. Parallel analysis splits long footage into short overlapping segments and analyses several at once, with events appearing as each segment finishes. Stream analysis works on a match while it's being broadcast live.

  4. 4

    Review and export

events appear on an interactive timeline; click any one to jump to that moment. Mark events as correct, wrong or duplicate, edit them, add your own, re-run the analysis with a custom prompt, and export the results.

Getting the best results

  • One wide camera covering most of the pitch works best. An elevated position — a stand, scaffold or tall tripod — helps the AI follow play across the field.
  • Full matches are fine. Use parallel analysis for anything longer than about 20 minutes.
  • Broadcast footage works too. Replays are filtered out automatically.
  • Pick both teams from your Teams list before analysing, so events are attributed to the right side.

Who uses it

Coaches preparing match reviews, analysts building clip reels for player feedback, scouts assessing opponents, academies tracking development over a season, and content creators turning full matches into highlight timelines.

Frequently asked questions

Does PitchView detect offsides?

Yes. Flagged offside calls that stop play are logged with a timestamp.

Can it analyse a full 90-minute match?

Yes. Parallel analysis is built for full-length matches and returns results much faster than a single pass.

Will a goal shown in a replay be counted twice?

No. Replay footage is ignored.

Does it track player positions or produce heatmaps?

No. PitchView detects and timestamps match events. It doesn't do positional tracking, possession statistics or heatmaps.

Does it understand VAR?

Yes. It logs VAR checks, on-field reviews and whether the original decision was overturned or upheld.
