Basic Rules & Standards

  • 1Serve must be underhand and below waist
  • 2Server must keep one foot behind baseline
  • 3Service must land diagonally in opponent's service box
  • 4Kitchen (no-volley zone) is 7 feet from net on each side
  • 5Double bounce rule: each side must let ball bounce once
  • 6Ball hitting kitchen line = fault
  • 7Volley in kitchen is not allowed

What PitchView AI detects in a pickleball match

  • Kitchen play — cross-court and straight dinks, and speed-ups attacking off the bounce.
  • Volleys — volley winners and block volleys that reset the point.
  • Special shots — the ATP (around the post), the Erne (jumping the corner of the kitchen) and the Bert.
  • Serves and returns — aces, missed serves and deep returns that force an error.
  • Faults — kitchen (non-volley zone) violations and balls out of bounds.
  • Rally endings — clean winners and unforced errors.

Rapid volley exchanges are marked as a hands battle, every third shot is identified as a drop or a drive along with whether it worked, and teams stacking is noted.

How it works

  1. 1

    Add your footage

upload a video file (up to 500 MB: MP4, AVI, MOV, MKV or WebM), paste a direct video URL or a YouTube link. For YouTube you can choose the download quality; the recommended one is pre-selected.

  2. 2

    Choose the sport

pick it from the list, or let PitchView auto-detect it from a YouTube link. You confirm the sport before the analysis starts, and can pick the two teams from your Teams list so events are attributed to them.

  3. 3

    Standard, parallel or live

standard analysis processes the whole video in one pass, ideal for highlights and short clips. Parallel analysis splits long footage into short overlapping segments and analyses several at once, with events appearing as each segment finishes. Stream analysis works on a match while it's being broadcast live.

  4. 4

    Review and export

events appear on an interactive timeline; click any one to jump to that moment. Mark events as correct, wrong or duplicate, edit them, add your own, re-run the analysis with a custom prompt, and export the results.

Getting the best results

  • A camera behind the baseline, raised above the players, shows the kitchen line clearly — important for dinks and kitchen violations.
  • Keep the whole court in frame, including the net posts for ATPs.
  • Long sessions: use parallel analysis for faster results.
  • Pick both teams from your Teams list so rallies are attributed correctly.

Who uses it

Coaches teaching kitchen play and third-shot choice, tournament players reviewing their games, clubs and leagues, and creators making highlight timelines.
